And Now...

...the ISB proudly presents the most Silver-Agey word balloon in the entire Silver Age:

Spoken, of course, by Superman in Jerry Siegel's classic "Superman's Mermaid Sweetheart" from Superman #135.

Of all the silver-agey balloons in the world, that's the silver-ageyest!

It would be more silver-agey if the thing standing in their path had no connection to the sea and therefore the context of the story, an atomically powered robot ape for instance.

Call me crazy, but I loved this story as a kid. Maybe I just liked the image of Supes kissing a mermaid, as they hovered on the waves-beaten surf.

LOL! Great stuff, Chris! You nailed it.

Of course, when talking Silver Age, we can't forget the super-condensed mini histories composed entirely of run-on sentence word balloons.

Stuff like "That mailbox is made of Kryptonite, the radioactive substance from my destroyed homeworld of Krypton, from which I was sent to Earth by my father Jor-El and raised by Ma and Pa Kent, who died of Virus X shortly before I arrived in Metropolis as Superman!"

Screw the Silver Age!
That is the best thought balloon in all of comicdom!

I think it's something we can all relate to, you know?

It's still the Silver Age in our hearts.

Say it really fast and throw in a 'Ha ha' and that could be a parody woord bubble from Speed Racer.

Just going through my own archives, I would like to suggest:

"While the satellite circles Krypton, powerful cosmic rays will change him back to human... if my theory's right! Otherwise, he'll remain a gorilla for life!"
